QUICK! Shut Down KLIA - security breach!

HAHAHAHAHA - you will not believe this:

We arrived in KL at 830 pm Saturday night.  While I collected the bags, Dad went to look for where we had to go in order to check our luggage in for the flight to Brisbane on Sunday morning and so the we could access the airport hotel.

I collected the bags and then headed over to where I saw dad speaking with a Policeman.  He was digging through his fanny pack for our boarding passes from the flight from Tawau to KL.  This is what happened:

Dad left me to collect the luggage.  When looking for the lift to floor 5 to re-check-in, he walked through the EXIT.  He then turned around and walked back into luggage reclaim area from the outside and was stopped by a female police officer who could not understand English and the only thing she said, that he could understand, in Malay, was, "Where did you come from?"

Then she summoned  her partner, a male police officer, who could understand a little bit more English, and he asked Dad where he came from. Dad told him and he wanted to see the boarding passes from Tawau,. It was then that I walked over from collecting the bags, and dad had pulled out a handful of boarding passes from previous trips.......

WTF!!!!  These were backdated to February 2011 and 2010.

Finally we found right ones and I suppose because I had our suitcases the police officer let us go, laughing at us.

Now if we were in Brisbane, there probably would have been a security breach and people would have all had to be rescreened!

How funny was that!!!!!!..

Still laughing!

Another ride to another "Icebox" and farewelling Tawau

Our final day arrived and we packed up our gear.  Aunty Ho came and picked us up for our final meal of Bau.

Before heading to the Bau Cafe, Aunty Ho took us for a drive to the other "icebox" only this time we did not go in. It is amazing that these people build their scrap metal houses on the shore and into the ocean!  Anyway, as I was taking pictures - this time with the window down, I saw a few of these people walking down towards the street and I told Aunty Ho, "Go, go, go!"  Just in case they took exception to having their house photographed. LOL

Anyway, we got our bau and I got one to takeaway so that when the first one settled I could eat the second one.  By the time we arrived in KL I was glad to have filled up on Bau.

Tomorrow..........CONGEE!

Aunty Ho's son is making his famous Congee for lunch.......will update the blog after this momentous occasion has occurred!!

It tasted fantastic!!!

Yummo!

Hot Springs tourist attraction coming soon!

Drove out to Hot Springs where they are building a tourist attraction.

Here are some photos:

Dad and his skinny legs

Ice Box

We took a drive through the ICEBOX today.  This is the place where illegal immigrants enter Malaysia and they decide to stay and build their homes outward over the water.  There are too many for the police to do much about.

While driving through, Dad said, "Would you be game enough to walk through here and through the paths over the water???  If so, you'd probably never come back!"

When Aunty Ho was asked about how dangerous the area was she said she was brave to drive through because there were THREE of us.........not sure how much protection I could provide! LOL

Here are some photos:

The illegal immigrant's 'homes' built over the water and with scrap metal!

Making 'mochi' (not sure what you call it in Chinese but mochi is Japanese for the same thing)

Dad and I went to the local church cafe for breakfast this morning as we had run out of bau to eat.  Aunty Ho came by and picked us up at lunchtime and you guessed it, we went and bought more bau and more Yau Char Kwai and then headed to Aunty Hap's for lunch - I was still full from breakfast so I did not have much to eat but we helped to prepare lunch which included little mochi balls in chicken soup and a brown sugar, ginger and mochi ball dessert.

It was all very very yummy and dad and I are absolutely NOT having dinner tonight.  I feel like one does after Christmas dinner when you have stuffed yourself so full that you want to throw up.......way too much food or not enough time between meals I think.

LOL

Yum Cha

Aunty Ho came and got dad and I and took us to Yum Cha.  I swear, all we do is either eat or go to the markets to buy food to prepare to eat!

At night, Jeff came and got dad to go for Fish Head soup.  I decided not to go and Ray and I stayed in and watched a movie.

Q Nyuk -MMMMMM yummo!

Today was a big day,

We went to Aunty Hap's place to learn how to cook Q Nyuk.  Arriving at 11am we started.......Aunty too me home at 4pm and dad came back around 6pm.

Rev Nui picked us up at 730pm to have dinner at Aunty Ho's place. There are loads of pictures but I will have to wait until I am able to find an SD slot to upload them.  I cannot find one on this computer I am using.

At Aunty Ho's we had the Q Nyuk, Tofu and pork stirfry, Sweet Potato shoots and Ben's fish!   What a great meal!

YUMMO!

Ben the fish was AWESOME!

Photos will come have now been attached!

:-)

BIG STORMS!

Massive thunder and lightning storms happened and no our internet link to the world is broken. :-(

In the wee hours on the morning I could hear thunder far away............but then the next minute there was a HUGE clap of thunder followed immediately by lightning made me jump out of bed and a car alarm was triggered in the street.

Needless to say that was a BIG storm!

And now we have had no internet since then.

So I am now updating my blog from memory at Aunty Ho's house.

Not many photos though, but only cos I that would now take too long.

Cheers

This is for Uncle Chris - just to ensure he knows how good our Kaya Jam is!

Satay!

YUM!

The pictures tell it all:

Starting to cook the satay

Helping cook the satay

Enjoying the satay.

Yau Char Kwai

Thanks to Aunty Ho, after we left lunch we drove past the place that Ben and Yong suggested would still cook the Yau Char Kwai and Kaya Jam.  We stopped because it was around the time that they may have it and Aunty Ho ran in and got some!

Woohoo!

The infamous Yau Char Kwai

My bau man who makes the best bau in Tawau.

We then went back to Aunty Ho's sister's place and she taught us how to make Kaya Jam.  Was talking to Uncle Chris and was such a coincidence that while we had started to prepare the kitchen to make the jam, Uncle Chris asked me to get dad to ask around to anyone who knows how to make Kaya Jam!!!  He was jealous when he found out about my  Yau Char Kwai so I had to tell him also about the fact that we were just about to learn how to make the Kaya Jam!

So easy now that I know how to do it.  We are bringing some home, and Uncle Chris can have the little jar.
LOL

Following are some pictures from our cooking lesson:
The Coconut Cream

The egg and sugar mix

Nearly ready (the green are pandan leaves)

YUM!  Dad enjoying the rest of the Yau Char Kwai and warm , 'just made' kaya jam.

A little bit for Uncle Chris

Bottling it for us
WHAT A GREAT DAY!

Divide by 3

Aunty Ho has been paying for a couple of our lunches, arguing that it is very cheap.  Dad retorts with, "Yes, bt for us, we divide by 3 and are even cheaper!"

We had Bau for Breakfast this morning and we bought some more for tomorrow morning's breakfast.  YUMMY!

Dad and I have been doing 25-30 minutes on the treadmill each morning and this afternoon, we walked a total of 3-4 km to the shops and back to recharge our sim cards.  That is to combat all this good food we are eating!!

A rat is in da House!

Everyone had gone to bed when I heard a noise and then saw some curtains move, on closer inspection a huge mouse (about 15cm long not including the tail) climbed back up onto the window ledge and out of the window.

10 minutes later it was back, scuttling across the floor, I shooed it back towards the window it came in and it darted up the curtain. I went to get dad - 1am !!! - and tell him I could not get the rat out of the house, he came down but we couldn't shoo it.

IT WAS HUGE!

Anyway, Aunty Ho has brought over a rat trap, sticky glue like stuff so we are going to catch it and get rid of it tomorrow. Failing that, she has a cage trap we can use. Aunty Ho thinks the sticky stuff may not be strong enough to catch it.

Shopping and MORE FOOD!!!

Aunty Ho came and picked us up today to take us to breakfast and shopping.  We stopped by to feed Uncle Danny's fish at the shop, pick up Aunty Hong and went to breakfast.  We had a fantastic breakfast, and Dad had a great conversation with Aunty Hong.

We then went for a look around the market and bought 2 papayas, curry powder, and then shopping outside on the streets of Tawau.
After a morning of shopping, we headed to lunch. LAKSA!  It was fantastic!

I did have a photo of it but now it won't upload here.

On the way home we decided to buy some vegetables and prawns for dinner.  On our way out of the market, we spotted the small little glutenous rice balls (like the Japanese Daifuku Mochi) filled with peanuts!  MMMMM, we snapped them up for snacks.

I had a picture of the bakery stall too but that will not upload here till I figure out what is going on.

Anyway, that was tons of walking for one day so hopefully it will keep off the weight I am sure to put on with all of this eating if I was not walking!

Geng the Tick Whisperer and more food!

Geng found a tick on Mickey the dog.  He asked me if I knew how to remove it and I suggested we Google it.  The first link told us to make it dizzy by rotating the body around in one direction.  I scoffed and said, "Never heard of that before", but we decided to try it.

Geng held the dog and proceeded to try and make the tick dizzy.  IT WORKED!  We couldn't believe it, so now Geng is to be known as the tick whisperer.

We had breakfast early this morning and saw Aunty Ho for afternoon tea. Here are some photos:
